|
A Doctor's profession is revered the most in the world in so much that the career can be termed as a calling or vocation to ensure the good health of mankind. Many of candidates attempt to enter this noble profession every year through entrance examinations conducted on the national level and by the respective institutes as well.
All India Pre-Medical / Pre-Dental Entrance Examination is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education
(CBSE) generally in the month of May. The examination is for admission to 15% of total seats in all Medical / Dental Colleges run by the Union of India, State Governments and other local bodies, except in
Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Students from Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir can claim eligibility on fulfilling certain conditions.

Procedure of the Examination
|
CBSE conducts the examination, evaluates answer-scripts and then prepares a merit / waiting list of candidates. These lists are forwarded to the Director General of Health Services who allocates the seats, as per the candidate's rank, in the presence of the candidate or authorised representatives. In the event of a tie between two or more candidates, they are given preference for merit in the following order: (a) the candidate who obtained higher marks in Biology, Chemistry or Physics in the entrance examination, or (b) the candidate older in age. The process of admission is completed by September, the remaining seats are then deemed to have been surrendered back to the college / State.

Academic Eligiblity
|
|
The qualifying examinations are listed below:
-
The
Higher / Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School
Certificate Examination equivalent to 10+2 with English
language and electives Physics, Chemistry, Biology
(including practical tests) and Mathematics.
-
The
Intermediate / Pre-degree examination in Science of an
Indian University / Board or other recognised examining body
with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (including practicals) and
English.
-
The
Pre-professional / Pre-medical examination with Physics,
Chemistry, Biology (including practical tests) and English
after passing the Higher Secondary Examination or the
Pre-University or an equivalent examination.

The
first-year of an under-graduate course in Physics, Chemistry
or Biology (including practical tests) from a recognised
University with the candidate having passed the earlier
qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and
English as subjects.

B.Sc.
examination of an Indian University with not less than two
of the subjects, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany,
Zoology) as electives. The candidate should have passed the
earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry,
Biology and English.

Examinations
equivalent in scope and standard to the Intermediate science
examination of an Indian University / Board with the
subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (including practical
tests) and English.

The
candidate must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks (40% for
SC/ST/OBC candidates) taken together in Physics, Chemistry
and Biology in the qualifying examination and passed these
subjects individually as well.

Indian
nationals educated abroad must have passed the subjects
Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English up to the 12th
standard level with 50% marks. However, the equivalency will
be determined according to the regulations of the Medical
Council of India and the concerned University.

Students
appearing for the qualifying examination in the year of the
competitive examination can seek provisional admission till
the first round of allotment by personal appearance.

Other Eligibility Conditions
|
|
-
The
candidate must be an Indian national.
-
The
candidate must have completed 17 years of age at the time of
admission or will complete the same on or before December 31
of the year of admission.
-
Candidates
from Jammu & Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh are not
eligible. Those who desire to claim eligibility must submit
an affidavit (original copy) on Rs. 10/- non-Judicial Stamp
Paper sworn before and attested by a Metropolitan Magistrate
/ First Class Judicial Magistrate. It should state that the
student is not eligible to seek admission to Medical /
Dental colleges in Andhra Pradesh and J&K and that the
student is not domiciled in either of these two states.

Scheme of the Examination
|
|
There is a single paper of objective-type
questions in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany &
Zoology). There are 200 questions for a maximum of 800 marks.
Each question carries 4 marks with negative marks assigned to an
incorrect response. However, unanswered questions carry zero
marks. The medium is either English or Hindi as per the choice
indicated by the student in the application form. The duration
of this paper is 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Application Procedure
|
The application form and information bulletin for this
examination can be obtained in person from designated branches
of Canara Bank in December-January or by post by sending an MICR
Bank Draft payable to 'The Secretary CBSE, New Delhi', along
with a self-addressed envelope of size 12"x10"
(without postage stamps), from The Deputy Secretary, All
India Pre-Medical / Pre-Dental Entrance Examination Unit,
Central Board of Secondary Education, 17 - B, Indra Prastha
Estate, New Delhi - 110 002.
